Turners Falls Open Studio & Downtown Walking Tour Great Falls Art Fest Saturday + Sunday • May 17 + 18 Starting at 10 A.M.
Once again, downtown Turners Falls blooms with creativity for the festive Arts and Blooms weekend, organized by the Brick House Community Resource Center and Carriage House Designs. Below is a guide to the 17 stops on this year's tour which features galleries, museums, performances, open studios, the Great Falls Art Fest, food and more.

Discover the Connecticut River Watershed through a virtual tour of watershed habitats with beautiful murals and wildlife exhibits. Shop at the Museum Store for nature-themed books, toys and crafts. View the exhibit from the WGBY "Wild About Nature" photography contest in the historic Great Hall.

Photo Exhibit by Rose Whitcomb-Detmold with AzaAshe and Guests. In the summer of 2007, the African drum & dance company AzaAshe traveled to Senegal, West Africa, staying on Goree Island off the coast of Dakar. These photographs offer a glimpse into life on Goree, which is known for its history as a central slave trade port. AzaAshe will be performing pieces from West Africa on Sunday from 2pm-3pm.
This exhibit is made possible in part by the Montague Cultural Council.

A Brick House Community Resource Center event featuring incredible art and handcrafted goods, live music, delicious food, children's activities, TeeVee the Clown, Hoopla Hoops, Dreamcatcher Ride and more on the beautiful grounds of the Great Falls Discovery Center! Proceeds benefit The Brick House.

Dual exhibits from two different spiritual communities. "Perfect Intimacy", color images of Catholic nuns in Carmelite monasteries in Israel, Palestine & the U.S. by Israeli-born Lili Almog; and, "Meditations on Simplicity", classic black & white images of Shaker architecture & artifacts, by Linda Butler. Stella Johnson's exhibit "AL SOL" is an intimate portrait of the lives of three families in poor, rural communities in Nicaragua, Cameroon and Mexico. Johnson's almost two-decades long relationship with the families results in black and white images rich in human detail and grace. Through June 15.

Spencer Peterman is always on the lookout for fallen trees rotting in the woods. He gets excited about that stuff. So do his customers. Hidden in these trees-especially the ones covered by moss and dirt-is wood disfigured by the beginnings of decomposition. Turning wood on a lathe produces strikingly unique bowls.
