Summer is flopping along nicely, and then, BOOM! completely blinded by kittens. We have a wonderful bumbling mass of cute fuzziness for this month & then MPBE will be taking a two-month recess, resuming in
October. Until then, please keep a lock on weirdo happenings in our river valley here: http://happyninvalley.blogspot.com/
ok, now for this month:
Daily Life are Clean Tom and Ms. Mirror Memori. They are high and low. Does that tell you anything? Not at all! The providence-based duo lay plastic bricks on a clackety assembly line that snakes through a massive white cathedral as a pudgey littleperson messages uneasy
notes from a yamaha keyboard in the balcony above. Still no help?
Clean Tom is Mark Lord is Kites is CF is Chris Fourges. He builds exquisite electronic instruments from scratch with real organic junk parts. He is a prolific & brilliant comicbook artist. He is in this band & so much more & I'm psyched they're playing. How 'bout that?
Greenfield resident Liz Tonne will be performing improvisations for solo voice. Most of you might know her from work with the stupendous Boston-based electroacoustic orchestra led by Bhob Rainey called the
BSC. She has also collaborated with likes of David Gross & Bill Nace as well as worked professionally, singing the schmaltzy jams, like at weddings.
Crespo/Schneiderman Duo brings the chocolatey cookie of Holyoke together with the sweet cream of Brattleboro, making an impeccable oreo of sonic awkwardness. Former Gutters gargoyle & current Barl Owl thumpstaff-rubber Andy Crespo expands on his idiosyncratic vocabulary when paired with equally puzzling multi-instrumentalist, Sunburner, & Spirit of Orr record-pusher Ron Schneiderman. Delight abounds. I think you can order milk at the bar to go with it.
Lily Sage will be lecturing on the subject of Mongolian Shamanism. During the spring of 2008, through the School of International Training's study abroad program, she did fieldwork interviewing shamans and observing their ritual in Ulaanbaatar and two other aimags (provinces), Dornod and Khentii. She is a recent graduate of Marlboro
College with a degree in Political theory/Sociology.
ADDJ is Rob Forman and he will knock your socks off with drop dead gorgeous selections of italian prog jams & musique concrete finery. Who knows what lurks in his crates. He is a record label boss (sedimental), a show promoter (mental-drift / non-event), a wine importer, and he's always telling me about music i should know.
