Details: The Gallery at Hallmark is pleased to present Vern McClish's documentary photographs of the people in the communities of the Appalachian region of Southern Ohio. The exhibition, entitled "Appalachian Families and Faces, 1971-1975", will be exhibited from Friday, July 16 to Sunday September 5, 2010. There will be an opening reception on Saturday July 17, from 1-5 PM. The Gallery is located in the Colle Opera House at 85 Avenue A in historic downtown Turners Falls, Massachusetts.

From 1971-1975, Vern McClish documented the people of the coal-mining region of Southern Ohio. Intrigued by the fascinating people and area, McClish photographed there over the course of four years, recording the lives of people and preserving an historical record of life in this small mining town in America. Though impoverished even today, the stoic folks of this region radiate a strength and grace found in many similar working-class communities across the country. McClish re-visited Appalachia last summer for a major exhibition of this work for the local people whose families and friends adorn many of the images.

Vern McClish is a graduate of Ohio University in Athens, Ohio where this project began. He currently lives in Turners Falls, Massachusetts where he is the Director of Marketing and Career Development for Hallmark Institute of Photography.

The Exhibition Opening reception, available to the public at no charge, will take place from 1:00 to 5:00pm on Saturday July 17, and will include refreshments and live music. "Appalachian Families and Faces, 1971-1975", will be on display Fridays through Sundays 1:00 to 5:00pm through Sunday, September 5, 2010.
