eligibility and guidelines

Eligibility:

  • Fine artists who currently reside in and/or work from a studio located within Franklin County
  • Artists working in drawing, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, or video art
  • In order to avoid conflicts of interest, employees of Fostering Art and Culture
    Project, The Gallery at Hallmark, Turners Falls RiverCulture, The Biennial planning committee, and members of their families, are prohibited from entering the competition
  • One artist will be selected by the jurors as the first prize-winning entrant. The work of this artist will be featured in the exhibition catalogue, as well as on the websites of Fostering Art and Culture Project, The Biennial, The Gallery at Hallmark, and Turners Falls RiverCulture.

General Guidelines:

  • Submitted images must be of work completed within the past three years
  • The staff of The Gallery at Hallmark, in consultation with members of The Biennial planning committee, will make all final decisions regarding appropriateness of materials, assignment of gallery space, and installation methods
  • Turners Falls RiverCulture will retain 25% of all art sales to cover expenses associated with the biennial exhibition
  • Artists are responsible for the delivery or shipment of their work to and from the gallery
  • Entrants are encouraged to create an artist's profile in the Fostering Art and Culture Project online database [click here to register]

Preparation of CD or DVD:

All entries must be digital. Flat art should be cropped to the image area. For sculpture, installations, and flat art with variably sized edges, photographs should be taken against a neutral background. Jurors may review some or all of any submitted DVD materials.

  • Image Dimensions: 300ppi saved baseline JPG format; widest side not greater than 8 inches
  • Video Art Specifications: cue to preferred starting point; work should be no longer than 30 minutes total running time

On Tuesday, June 14, 2010, from 6:00pm to 7:30pm Fostering Art and Culture Project, in collaboration with The Gallery at Hallmark, will host an information session about compact disc image preparation in Room 120/121 of Greenfield Community College's Downtown Center [click here for directions].
