Pop Up Shop Plans
Jan 24, 2013
After a very successful holiday season, Powertown Pop Up Shop will close at its current location at 85 Avenue A due to the Colle building’s longtime renter, Northeast Foundation for Children’s (NEFC), need for additional space. They will expand their operation into the current Pop Up’s gallery.
The Pop Up Shop was originally created by Turners Falls RiverCulture and Shop Western Mass as a six week store to re-animated the vacant space at the main intersection of Turners Falls, create opportunity for artisans to sell their work, and serve as a pilot for a future long-term arts coop. Over 50 artists were represented in this brand new initiative generating brisk sales during the holiday season. We received inquiries from artists every day as word got out about this much needed selling venue. The shop’s success led to plans to continue in its location to further the vibrant energy it brought to the emerging retail cluster on the Avenue and to solidify long range store plans.
We are pleased NEFC is growing and becoming a larger, stable presence in Turners Falls and the region, and that they can utilize the space. The success of the Pop Up Shop has shown us that this kind of venture is needed and possible, and we will look to continue the venture at a future point, as appropriate space and resources become available to start over.
We thank the many artists who participated, the Town of Montague, Massachusetts Cultural Council, Hillside Plastics, Judd Wire, and Republic Services for their support in making this shop happen. And thank you to all who shopped at Powertown Pop Up Shop and for your commitment to buying local.
